Hot Off The Press
June 23, 2010

Sleepydog’s range of eBooks for the iPhone and iPod touch are the latest cover feature for industry journal, The School Librarian.
‘New Books, New Technologies, New Challenges’ is the theme of the issue, which includes an article written by top children’s authors Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore.
Speaking about the benefits of electronic publishing, Skidmore said:
“…kids who are turned off reading and wouldn’t dream of going to a library or bookshop, can get hold of eBooks easily and cheaply and think they are cool. It gets them reading!”
The magazine also includes a feature entitled ‘Our iPod Touch Experiment’ in which Pembroke School Librarian, Liz Smith looks at how children responded to Sleepydog’s eBooks.
Smith reported that:
“Cerys declared it was ‘cool’ and gave it ‘infinity out of infinity’… she loved the idea that you would never be without a book and commented that she liked being able to flick the page over like a ‘normal’ book.”
The School Librarian is the journal of the School Library Association (SLA). For more information please visit the SLA website.
